PC Shed
The prestressed concrete (PC) shed is the most effective and reliable method to protect roads and railways from large snow avalanches or rockfalls. PC sheds are categorized by their usage for snow protection, PC Snow-shed, or for shielding from falling rocks, PC Rock-shed. They are also categorized according to their shape, either inverted L-shaped or gate-shaped. The structure combines the shed roof, which receives falling snow or rocks, and support columns as one unit, and they are fabricated in factories and assembled on site. Therefore, the workability and economic efficiency of PC sheds are much improved. Many PC sheds have been installed on mountain roads all over Japan.
Features
- PC sheds can have a short construction period because precast concrete members are assembled on site.
- The main precast concrete members, such as columns, main beams, and cross beams, are connected by PC at panel points. Therefore, the structure is very stable.
- Concrete members have high quality and durability because they are precast products from a fabrication factory.
